Hi. I’m tall and I’m hairy.
I’ve been hairy for as long as I can remember. I’m not quite sure when it all started or what triggered it but I’m hopeful for the future. This is my third week since I’ve allowed my tash to grow. I couldn’t have done it without the help of all you guys.
Que the round of applause and sympathetic nods from my fellow hairy ones.
That’s how I imagine it would be at a Tall and Hairy Anonymous meeting. Maybe someone should start a club. We could all meet and discuss the worst things we’ve done while hairy, any hairy regrets, how we manage when exposed to an excessive amount of hair now that we’re in hair rehab, how the TaHA meetings have been helping us manage our own hair problems.
If you haven’t already worked out this is supposed to be a life hack article on how to manage your hair problems. Let’s get to it.
Warning! Always conduct a test patch and wait 48 hours to see how your skin reacts.
1: Natural is best?
I’ve been reading a lot online recently about natural hair removal products that can save you so much money and are actually very good. Here are two that I’ve personally tried and have found useful.
Sounds delicious right? Not really but it’s CHEAP.
Essentially you mix unflavoured gelatine to warm milk. Ensure its not to hot before you Apply to the area you want to treat. Let it dry fully before you peel. A bit like those gel face masks. That’s it !
An ancient practice that can all be done at home. No more letting it all grow out before the awkward unveiling to your beauty therapist. Who is probably 5ft 4, size 6 and hair free.
In a clean saucepan bring water, sugar and lemon juice to the boil. Don’t walk away from your pan. You’ll want to keep an eye on this. Let it darken and then turn off the heat and let it cool. WARNING: this mixture will be extremely hot. Let it cool for between 15/20 min or until you feel its cool enough not to burn you but warm enough to manipulate into a ball. Smooth it out on the area you want to wax…big deep breath …and pull!
2: Hair removal creams
Anyone who is part of my imaginary Tall and Hairy Anonymous meetings will know the feeling. Sitting on the loo before your shower reading TMZ on your phone with a fresh smudge of cream over your chin and lip for 5-7 minutes. Hair removal creams are great just make sure you take care in where you apply it and how long you leave it for. You don’t want to give yourself an accidental chemical peel. Ouch!
3: Sneaky little plucker
Tweezers. A day without my tweezers and I’d go into a meltdown. For all those times I’ve rubbed my chin and felt IT…that hard, sharp point of a hair. Then come the mental questions to yourself. Did anyone else see it? How can it be there? I checked this morning? Do I have my tweezers? Make an excuse just get out of here!
Thank you trusty tweezers. For taking the root as well as the hair. Job well done my old friend.
That’s it. Three of my hairy tips. All in all don’t panic. You’re not the only woman to have hair in unwanted places. Find what works for you and stick to it. Keep the routine simple and always remember to exfoliate to avoid ingrown hairs.
My Top Tip: A great natural exfoliant is olive oil and brown sugar mixed together in a paste. Apply before your shower otherwise the sugar will simply dissolve. Trust me. If you want super smooth dewy skin, this is the one.
See you all at the next TaHA meeting!
