I just want to start by saying that you are all beautiful and you can all have great style! It’s all about being who you want to be, having confidence and rocking it. Don’t ever care what people think about you… you are fabulous!

I know there are many curvy women out there struggle to dress for their body shape, whether that’s rectangle, hourglass, apple, pear or something else, so I’m here to give you some tips on how you can flatter your body shape, dress your curves with confidence and feel comfortable.

I asked the lovely ladies of #teamtall what they would like to see from me in Tall Guides Magazine and this suggestion really stuck with me.

“Only started following recently, so I’m not sure if you’ve already written about curvier tall women and flattering outfits for women size 14+. I find that most of the ads for tall clothing have model-like women and most of the time I have a hard time picturing how certain items would look on a curvier figure.”

So today I want to touch on this request from a lovely, curvy, tall lady and show you how you can flatter a curvy 14+ figure. I’ll also be including some outfit inspiration and examples of pieces that will work really well for your curvy body shape.

I want you to think about taking out those pieces in your closet that you thought you couldn’t wear or introduce these pieces into your wardrobe because when it comes to styling your curves you should choose pieces that naturally emphasize your waist and keep your top and bottom curves equally balanced out. Loose/soft drape fabric tops are great for the ladies who are not very confident about their middle area and you’ll be amazed at the difference a neckline can make – certain necklines can be very flattering indeed.

My recommended pieces for your curvy wardrobe:

  • Shift dress
  • Wrap dress/top
  • Small prints
  • Loose fabrics
  • Crop blazer/fitted nipped waist
  • V-Neck/Scoop neck/off shoulder
  • Long blazers
  • Single breasted jackets
  • High waist jeans/trousers
  • Wide leg Trousers
  • Boot-cut
  • Pencil/skater/A-line skirt
  • Gathered waist dress

There are many more but let’s look at three of these pieces in more detail.tall curvy plus tall guides magazine tallguides stylist zodie styles

  1. New Look – various 2. Asos Curve – High-waisted Skinny Jeans 3. River Island – Plus Longline Blazer

1. The Empire Waist Line Dress

Are you conscious about your middle area? The flowy material of this dress just drapes over your body. The empire waist line hits you at the smallest part and creates the illusion of curves you might not have. The V-neck is very flattering, it elongates your neck and draws attention to your top half. This dress is the perfect style for apple and pear shape ladies and the small print with wider base colour makes you appear smaller.

2. The High-Waisted Skinny Jeans

This is a must have and everyone should have a pair in their wardrobe, no matter what body shape you have. I love skinny jeans! They are perfect for curvy ladies and I would definitely recommend investing in some high-waisted skinny jeans. The high waist is important because it is very flattering for your tummy area and holds everything in. You need to remember that if you don’t have curves you need to create curves and if you do, accentuate them!

3. The Longline Blazer

Are you conscious of your hips? If so. Then the longline blazer is perfect for you. It sits just below the widest part of your hips, slimming your hips and waist whilst keeping your hips and shoulders in balance. This blazer is perfect for pear shape girls and the perfect length for any shape tall girls too! NO MORE SHORT BLAZERS!

I promised you some outfit inspiration so I have created 5 looks for you;
