London Fashion Week took place this week, with collections for autumn/winter 2017.

Roland Mouret made a triumphant return to LFW to unveil his 20th anniversary collection, while Christopher Kane brought us metallic twinsets and futuristic dinner ladies but the recurring theme seemed to be gender fluidity. Men modelled what would traditionally be seen as women’s wear and vice versa. Many of the clothing brands have been designed to be deliberately unisex or androgynous but outfits by Oliver Thame and Robert Sanders stood out for their lack of gender constraints.

The people called for catwalk fashion for grown-ups and Simone Rocha answered. The designer, who chose to celebrate timeless style over youth culture, recruited a roster of modelling veterans to showcase her beautifully crafted collection. Among them were 73-year-old Italian model Benedetta Barzini and Ohio-born Jan Ward de Villeneuve, 69. British supermodel Erin O’Connor, 39, also made a rare catwalk appearance for Gareth Pugh and Erdem.

Much like black cabs, red post boxes and irrational Tube rage, the trench coat is a London icon. It is to the capital what the beret is to Paris and the burger is to New York. This week, the trench ruled both on the catwalk and the streets outside of London Fashion Week. Here are a few tall trench options if you haven’t yet got one in your wardrobe.

The Tall TrenchTall Trench Coat LFW

1. Tall Trench Long Tall Sally £125, 2. ASOS Classic Trench £60 3. Vero Moda Tall Trench (asos) £48 4. New Look Tall £34.99 5. ASOS Tall Trench £55

If AW17 could be summed up by one fabric it would be sheepskin but the shirt is still queen! Work shirts reigned supreme at LFW and oversized cuffs remained as crucial to your autumn/winter looks as the right pair of shoes.

Yeee-Haa! According to Henry Holland  and his rodeo show, cowboy boots are back but it would seem that the answer to all our dressing (and packing) woes next season is a daily practice that consists of two well- selected items: a big old jumper and an itsy-bitsy slip.
